When 9-year-old Aaron Tran watched the 2006 Torino Olympics with his family, he found himself transfixed by the speed and strategy of the short track speed skaters. Wanting to try it for himself, Tran started inline skating before transitioning to the ice four years later. Tran currently lives and trains with the U.S. national team in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the junior overall national champion in 2015, and has competed on four world junior championships teams. When he was 17, Tran competed at the 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials. He fell short of qualifying for the Olympic team, but was able to attend the Winter Games anyway when TD Ameritrade selected Tran and several other future Olympic hopefuls to watch the Games in person and gain some Olympic experience from the sidelines. At the 2017 World Championships, Tran finished seventh with the U.S. men in the 5000m relay.
