Ashley Wagner is a 2014 Olympian and bronze medalist in the team event. The determined athlete, who credits her resiliency to growing up an “Army brat,” proved maturity is an asset when she won a silver medal at the 2016 World Championships – the first for a U.S. female figure skater since 2006.

Wagner’s slow and steady journey to the top of the sport came with early Olympic disappointment: She finished third at the 2010 U.S. Championships, but only the top two skaters were sent to the Vancouver Games. She fell to sixth at the following nationals, and gave herself an ultimatum – win the national title in 2012 or quit the sport for good. She moved across the country, teamed up with a new coach, and won the title in 2012. She repeated as champion in 2013. She claimed a bronze medal at the exclusive 2013 Grand Prix Final and entered the 2014 U.S. Championships as a favorite for the Olympic team. She had a shaky performance at nationals, falling twice in the free skate, and ended up in fourth place. She was named to the three-woman team based on her body of work, but controversy followed her to Sochi. She won a bronze medal with the U.S. skaters as part of a new event, the team competition – and even garnered a bit of viral fame for her displeased reaction to her score. In the individual event, she finished seventh overall.

Wagner won a third national title in 2015. She finished fourth at the 2018 U.S. Championships and was not named to the PyeongChang Olympic team. She is the first alternate for ladies' figure skating.
