Biography

If it wasn't for a minimum-age requirement, Chloe Kim might have already made herself a household name at the Sochi Games. Instead, the young shredder from Southern California has patiently waited for her opportunity on the big stage, all the while racking up contest wins and progressing her sport.

Before Sochi, Kim was considered the future of women's halfpipe snowboarding. Now, as PyeongChang approaches, her time has officially arrived. With multiple X Games gold medals, multiple World Snowboard Tour titles, and dual gold in both halfpipe and slopestyle at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics under her belt, Kim has become the rider to beat in women's halfpipe. That's thanks in no small part to the level of progression she has put on display, such as when she made history at a U.S. Grand Prix contest in 2016 by becoming the first woman to land back-to-back 1080s.

Making her Olympic debut in PyeongChang would be fitting for Kim, a first-generation Korean-American who also happens to be trilingual. Her parents are originally from South Korea, and she still has family living there.
