2012 Olympian Jake Dalton punched his ticket to London with high-scoring vaults and floor routine, and in the team final was the only U.S. male gymnast to post a score over 16 points. The U.S. team faltered on other events and finished fifth, and Dalton also finished fifth in the floor exercise. On home soil, Dalton has won 15 total national championships medals from 2009 to 2016, plus the national title on floor four times. At the 2013 World Championships he won a silver medal on floor—an especially impressive achievement as his difficulty value was 0.70 points behind the gold medalist. Dalton has earned three other Worlds medals: team bronzes in 2011 and 2014, and vault bronze in 2014. Dalton was unable to collect more hardware at 2015’s major competitions due to a shoulder injury which required surgery. He came back strong in 2016—at the two Olympic selection events, the P&G Championships and Olympic Trials, Dalton finished third all-around and won the titles on floor and vault.
