Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kendrick Farris started his weightlifting training at age 11. He chose weightlifting over football and basketball at 16 and competed at his first International Weightlifting Federation-recognized event in 2004. Farris made appearances at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, where he lifted in the 85kg (187 lbs) category. Farris attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport, where he studied communications. He and wife Katrina have two sons, Khalil and Kingsley. In his spare time, Farris enjoys spending time with his family, performing comedy and editing and producing videos.

Getting to know Kendrick Farris


Though he began his weightlifting career in the 77kg (169 lbs) category, Farris moved up to 85kg from 2006 through 2012. In 2013, he started lifting in the 94kg (207 lbs) category.


In 2015, Farris took first place at the Pan American Games in the 94kg category with a 363.0kg (800lbs) total lift.


Farris’ highest total lift in his current 94kg category is 372.0kg (820 lbs), which he achieved at the 27th Summer Universiade in 2013.
