Biography

Outside of the Olympics, Lindsey Jacobellis has been as dominant as it gets in snowboard cross. She's entered the world championships five times, and she's won gold all five times. At X Games, another major pinnacle for the sport, she has won an unprecedented 10 gold medals in snowboard cross.

But at the Olympics, it has been a different story. In 2006, she crashed on one of the final jumps of the race while doing a celebratory method, causing her giant lead to evaporate. She was passed for the lead and instead settled for silver. Then a crash in a semifinal heat in 2010 left her out of medal contention at the Vancouver Games.

In 2012, Jacobellis tore her left ACL during X Games practice, and because the initial surgery failed, she was sidelined for two years. Rehabbing just in time for the Sochi Games, Jacobellis won a couple events in the lead-up to the Olympics, but then crashed in the semifinals once again in Sochi.

Jacobellis did not leave Sochi empty-handed though — she adopted a stray dog she found there and brought him back to the United States.
