A double threat in slopestyle and big air, Canada's Max Parrot will be in search of his first Olympic medal in PyeongChang.

Shortly before Sochi, Parrot became the first rider to land back-to-back triple corks in a slopestyle run. That established him as a gold medal contender for Sochi, but he finished off the podium altogether in fifth.

While Parrot has remained one of the top slopestyle riders, his best discipline might actually be big air, which will make its Olympic debut in PyeongChang. He won his third X Games gold medal in big air in 2017 and has landed a number of history-making tricks over the years, including a quad underflip (a trick with four flips) and a cab triple cork 1800.

On his path to success, Parrot has always been adamant about doing things his own way. Before the Sochi Games, he turned down an offer to train with the Canadian national team so that he could continue with his own independent program. In order to fund that, Parrot borrowed $20,000 from his parents to pay for his travel and entry fees, and thanks to a successful season, he was able to use his prize winnings to pay them back.
