Though he has dominated the sport of moguls since 2012, Mikael Kingsbury still lacks one thing: an Olympic title.

It's a goal that he's had ever since he was a kid. He once even printed out the Olympic logo on a sheet of paper and wrote himself a message on it: "Je vais gagnier" (French for "I will win"). That paper was then taped to the ceiling above his bed, and he would look at it each night.

Kingsbury's first opportunity to fulfill that promise was during the 2014 Olympics. As a 21-year-old, he was one of the favorites for gold in Sochi, but it was his Canadian teammate and 2010 Olympic champion Alexandre Bilodeau outdueling him for the top spot. Kingsbury settled instead for silver.

His dominance hasn't wavered since Sochi. Kingsbury has won both the overall and moguls World Cup titles for six years running. He's also collected a medal for moguls in each of his four world championship appearances, though only one gold (in 2013). He was also world champion in dual moguls, which is not an Olympic discipline, in 2015.

As for that picture of the Olympic rings? It's still there on the ceiling in his parents' home. "Until it happens, I’ll just leave them there forever," he told The National Post.
