Swedish skip Niklas Edin and his rink made their first Olympic appearance as underdogs, barely qualifying for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. They surprised the field by reaching the bronze-medal match, but fell to Switzerland to finish fourth. In the years leading up to Sochi, Edin skipped his rink to gold at the 2012 European Championships before capturing the title at the 2013 World Championships. At the 2014 Olympics, the Swedish men earned the best record in the round-robin round, but lost to Great Britain, the eventual Olympic champion, in the semifinals. They outscored China in the bronze-medal match to finish third. Edin found himself back on top in the post-Olympic seasons: he won three straight European titles (2014-6) and two more world championship medals: gold in 2015 and silver in 2017.
