Biography

France’s Teddy Riner – nicknamed “Teddy Bear” – has been unstoppable for nearly a decade. In 2007, he became the youngest judoka to win a world championship at 18 years and five months. Since then, he’s gone on to win a grand total of eight world titles, as well as an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games. The heavyweight (100+kg/220+ lbs) also appeared at the Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, earning a bronze medal for his efforts there. Since London, Riner has dealt with numerous shoulder injuries, but even that has not hampered his dominance on the mat. He is the favorite to repeat as Olympic champion in Rio.
