    The U.S. defeated Belgium 3-1 in the final of the qualifying tournament in Russia, thus solidifying their spot in the Beijing field hockey tournament.  It will be their first Olympic appearance since 1996.

The field in Beijing will have two more teams than the Athens tournament, expanding to 12 teams for both the men and women.
