Ryan is a five-season left-handed defenseman for the Nashville Predators of the NHL. He grew up watching and playing hockey and started playing competitively in 2001 on the U.S. under-18 team. After high school, he went on to play for the University of Wisconsin and in 2004, he moved to Nashville where he has lived eversince.
Ryan's place on the Olympic team could be called a rite of passage. His father, Bob Suter, was on the U.S. hockey team that defeated the Soviet Union in the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics win now referred to as the "Miracle on Ice." Ryan's uncle Gary is also a former Olympian and hockey star.
