Chad Hedrick, 32, was born in Spring to parents who owned a roller skating rink. He first put on roller skates when he was 17 months old. As a small boy, he became a member of the local roller skate racing team, which his father coached. Chad won his first national championship when he was 8 years old. Chad then mastered inline skates and raced to the top of that field. He revolutionized the inline speed skating world with his unique technique called the double push, or DP, which is now the standard skating technique for elite skaters. After watching a fellow inline skater win a medal at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002, Chad switched to speed skating on ice. Less than four years after switching to ice, Chad won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2006 Torino Games. Chad married Lynsey Elizabeth Adams in June 2008 in Houston. The couple had their first daughter, Hadley Angel Hedrick on March 18, 2009.
