As a high school senior, Maddie Bowman came onto the women’s freeskiing scene with some serious heat. It’s safe to say that 2012 was her breakout season, featuring podiums at nearly every major event for freeski halfpipe. In December 2011 she hadn’t yet been invited to the Dew Tour, but earned her January spot after winning a Rev Tour event and taking fourth at the VISA U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colorado. She converted the ticket into victory at the Killington, Vermont Dew Tour stop and also took third at Snowbasin, Utah. Her top spots also merited an invite to her very first Winter X Games, where she took home the silver medal. The 2012 season came to a close with Bowman’s victory at the AFP World Championship halfpipe event thanks to her brand new cork 900. The win landed her third in the women’s AFP halfpipe standings. Bowman’s first X Games gold in 2013, a bronze at X Games Tignes and victories at both stops of the VISA U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix made for a sweet ski season. Top it all off with her first AFP halfpipe title and that wraps it for the 2013 winter.
