Mirai Nagasu 'confused' over being left off Olympic, world teams

U.S. figure skater Mirai Nagasu has yet to speak publicly about being left off the U.S. Olympic Team, but her social media accounts broke an 18-day silence Thursday.
Nagasu placed third at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 11 and was not selected for the three-woman team for Sochi. Two-time national champion Ashley Wagner, who placed fourth, was selected amid controversy.
The U.S. Figure Skating Championships are not an Olympic Trials. The U.S. Olympic Team is selected by a committee, taking into account results not only from the U.S. Championships but also other international events.
If the comments are from Nagasu, they would be her first since a Jan. 12 statement.
“I’m disappointed in the decision,” Nagasu said in the previous statement. “Though I may not agree with it, I have to respect the decision the federation made. And I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me and look forward to what comes next in my skating career.”
