Kikkan Randall was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her parents Deborah and Ronn moved back to Alaska shortly after she was born. Kikkan and her two younger siblings Tanner and Kalli grew up in Anchorage.
She is the niece of cross-country Olympians Betsy and Chris Haines.
At East High school, Kikkan won seven titles as a champion cross-country runner. To keep up with her cross-country training, she would ski during the long winter months.
Kikkan quickly became a champion skier, respectively winning three titles. Following in the path of her aunt and uncle, she soon became an Olympic cross-country skier. She made her first Olympic debut in her birthplace, Salt Lake City, in 2002.
She now trains with the Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center.
