Bob De Jong is a three-time Olympic medalist and a veteran on the speed skating scene. De Jong skated in 1998 and won a silver in the 10,000m, his best distance. He won silver at the World Cup Salt Lake City in the 5000m.

Ireen Wuest is the defending Olympic champion in the 1500m. She also won gold in the 3000m in Torino. Wuest currently sits in first place in this year's overall World Cup standings for the 1500m.
