The first medals of the 2008 Olympics will be awarded on Saturday, August 9th, at approximately 10:50a Beijing time, to the top three finishers in the women's 10m air rifle event in the sport of shooting.

The hardware to be handed out at the Beijing Games includes a nod to the Olympics' Greek roots and a ring of jade, representing honor and pride in Chinese culture. Each medal weighs about five ounces.
