LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - U.S. Olympic luge hopeful Julia Clukey is recovering from arthroscopic right knee surgery and will miss the first week of on-ice training in Lake Placid.

The sliding track at Mt. Van Hoevenberg is scheduled to open for training Monday. Clukey expects to begin training around Oct. 12.

She was hurt in a training accident on a wheeled luge sled in late August, and underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus this week. USA Luge officials say Clukey should be fully recovered by mid-November and the injury will not affect her competitive season.

Clukey, of Augusta, Maine, was 12th in last season's World Cup standings.
