Canada drops U.S. 5-1 in Four Nations final

TIKKURILA, Finland (AP) -- Canada beat the United States 5-1 in the Four Nations Cup final behind a goal and two assists from Meaghan Mikkelson.

Jocelyne Lamoreux gave the U.S. women's hockey team the lead midway through the first period Saturday before Canada took over the game.

Carla MacLeod, Meghan Aghosta, Tessa Bonhomme and Cherie Piper also scored for the Canadians.

The U.S. had beaten Canada 3-2 in their final group game on Friday.

With the Olympic final expected to feature a Canada-U.S. match up, each game between the teams takes on more meaning. The season series now stands at 3-3, with the U.S. having won the Canada Cup in September.

The Americans won the Four Nations title in 2008 after beating Canada in a penalty shootout.

It was the 12th final between the two countries in the Four Nations Cup. Canada has won nine.

The 23 women on the U.S. roster are playing for 21 spots on the 2010 Olympic team. USA Hockey will announce the Vancouver roster on Dec. 17.
