A day in the life with Mariah Bell

What does figure skater Mariah Bell eat throughout a typical training day?

After sleeping for nine to 10 hours a night, I wake up at 7:25 a.m.

Since I train roughly 5 hours a day, I have to prepare. Once I wake up, I go for a 10 to 15 minute light jog. I stick to my daily goals by making a plan and sticking to it. Listening to my coach and giving my best effort always.

I come to eat breakfast, which is usually two whole grain Eggo waffles, three scrambled eggs and a probiotic dairy drink. My nutrition plan includes a lot of protein! I eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.

I get to rink by 8:45 a.m. and have my first session from 9:20 to 10:20 a.m.

Then it’s time to eat lunch (a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some fruit and water) and stretch and recover. Then I warm up for my second and third sessions of the day, from 11:40 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.

I do some more work to stretch and recover. I might have a snack during this time, which is either an apple or cheese stick.

My strength training class lasts from 3 to 4:15 p.m. I recover for the rest of the day. One of my favorite ways to end my day is doing yoga on the beach near my house.

My dinner might be something along the lines of a lean ground beef cheeseburger and edamame.

If I’m having a cheat day, I like to eat pizza or have ice cream for a late night snack. But I also like almost any dessert, like brownies, cookies or cake.

I get to bed around 9:30 p.m.
