Experience the Rio Olympics in virtual reality

NBC Olympics and Samsung want you to feel like you are in Rio this August. 

Samsung Gear VR users will be able to view exclusive coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics through the new NBC Sports app.

You won’t want to miss out on more than 100 hours of VR programming and 360 –degree storytelling, which include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the men’s basketball final, gymnastics, track and field, beach volleyball, diving, boxing and fencing, in addition to highlight packages of these sports (scroll down for daily schedule). Only those with Samsung Galaxy smartphones compatible with Gear VR will be able to access the VR content section of the NBC Sports app.  Virtual reality programming will available one day after competition from Aug. 6 through Aug. 22, the day after the Olympics conclude. 

The following is a step-by-step guide for users to follow:

Steps*:

  1. Make sure you have your Samsung Gear VR compatible device** and Samsung Gear VR headset 
  2. Download the NBC Sports app via Google Play
  3. Authenticate your cable or satellite operator within the NBC Sports app
  4. Click on exclusive VR content
  5. Insert Samsung phone into Gear VR powered by Oculus 
  6. Download the NBC Sports app within the Oculus store
  7. Follow prompts within the NBC Sports app to start your VR experience 

*Please note that if you launch the Gear VR application directly, you will be prompted to download the NBC Sports App and directed to login to your MVPD before viewing VR content.

**The list of Gear VR compatible devices are: Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 7
