Final snowboard World Cup before Sochi in Stoneham, Quebec
Jan 15, 10:30am EST
The up-coming weekend of the FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup will have everything a snowboard fan could ask for. From January 16-19, Stoneham and Quebec City, Canada, will host the 9th Snowboard Jamboree featuring medal decisions in all three snowboard freestyle events.
The main focus will be on the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions in Stoneham. Both contests are the last ones prior to the Olympic Winter Games also offering the last chance for athletes striving to qualify for Sochi 2014 to bring home some decent results. In addition, the best halfpipe athlete of the 2014 World Cup season will be crowned after this winter's fourth contest.
Right now, American Kelly Clark (2,000 points) leads the women's halfpipe World Cup ranking while fellow American Gregory Bretz (1,250) and Japan's Taku Hiraoka (1,250) are sitting on a shared first rank on the men's side.
However, both U.S. riders won't compete in Canada as they are locking horns with their teammates at Mammoth Mountain - as part of the U.S. Grand Prix - to find out who will make the Olympic team of four ladies and men.
