Five fun questions to get to know Matt Mortensen
What is your favorite workout or fitness trend?
I enjoy my entire workout regimen which I know is cliché. However, it is the truth. I couldn't imagine myself not working out after I am done being an athlete. It is a part of my life and luckily for me, a part of my "job" as an athlete.
What would people be surprised to learn about training for the Olympics?
I think people would be surprised to know that we can practice our starts on a refrigerated indoor track. The general thinking is that ice doesn't exist during the summer, which is not entirely true.
Tell us about your nutrition plan?
Fortunately for me I can eat almost anything I'd like. But, just as any other athlete, I keep my eye on sugar and carbohydrate intake. I want to eat those things, but not so much that is adversely affects my body composition.
Are there any misconceptions about your sport that you would like to clear up?
The most common misconception about our sport is that the athletes are doing nothing. This is very wrong. We are doing a lot, when it looks like an athlete is doing nothing, they are very good at what they do.
Which athlete, in any sport, has been your greatest source of inspiration?
Michael Jordan. He was always a clutch athlete. No matter the pressure, he could do what was expected of him.
