Five fun questions to get to know Steven Nyman

Not owning a television, Steven Nyman used to watch the Olympics on VHS

What’s the most grueling workout you’ve ever done?

I usually like to forget them. But last year we had a workout series called “pitforce” which was horrendous. It is basically circuit training but roughly 12 exercises, 20 reps at near max weight, 2-3 rounds. 5-10 seconds rest between each rep. It fries you!

What would people be surprised to learn about training for the Olympics?

Just as much if not more training than the major American sports for a fraction of the pay.

What is your earliest or favorite memory of watching the Olympics?

We didn't have TV so we had to watch videos and one of the videos I watched over and over was of the 1992 Olympics in Albertville. I would watch all the events. My Mom actually found the VHS tape the other day so we still have it.

Did anyone ever tell you that you wouldn’t be able to succeed in your sport?

In high school kids would make fun of me because I would center a lot of my reports and projects around skiing. But I loved it so I never backed down.

Do you have a personal motto or inspirational quote?

The grass is greenest where you water it.
