U.S. Biathlon Olympic hopeful ties the knot on snowy Lake Champlain
Three days before Christmas, U.S. biathlete Leif Nordgren and his fiancé, Caitlin Napoleoni, tied the knot in a picturesque winter wedding ceremony beside the tranquil waters of Lake Champlain, complete with fluffy white snowflakes falling as they exchanged their vows.
Nordgren, who will look to qualify for his second Olympic Games in IBU Cup races slated for January, returned from the November/December World Cup events without the necessary top 30 finish to claim a spot on the U.S. Biathlon team headed for PyeongChang in February.
The bride who handles meteorological duties for the NBC-affiliate station WPTZ in Burlington, Vermont had to be well aware of what was in store for her wedding day, but where other brides may have lost their cool over the squall, she and her Nordic athlete husband-to-be saw it as a blessing.
When Nordgren returns to biathlon, he will race in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia (Jan. 6-7) and Arber, Germany (Jan 11-13). He will try to best his fellow U.S. competitors also attempting to make the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team.
