Ski Beginnings

Born Feb. 2, 1982 in Provo, Utah. He began skiing at 2 with his mother while his father ran the ski school at Sundance Mountain Resort. He participated in his first race at 8 and competed in the 2002 World Juniors, where he landed two medals, including slalom gold.

Major Competitions/Medals

Nyman has competed at three Olympics. His best result was 19th in downhill at the 2006 Games.

Breakout Moment

When Nyman was 14, he realized skiing was what he wanted to do with his life. At 19, he started beating the sport’s biggest names and believing he could be one of the best in the world.


Nyman grew up at the Sundance Mountain Resort, which was founded by actor and Academy Award-winning director Robert Redford in 1969.

In addition to skiing, Nyman also did landscaping work at Redford's home, trimming hedges and mowing the lawn.

“I'd get to trim ‘Bobland’ into his flowers,” Nyman recalled.

Off the mountain

Nyman and his girlfriend welcomed a baby girl in June 2017.

In his spare time Nyman runs,, a site that he founded. The site is similar to fantasy football, but dedicated to World Cup skiing.
