Shaun White - halfpipe and slopestyle
The two-time gold medalist in the halfpipe returns to the Olympics for the third time. This time White, 27, is attempting to win double gold in both the halfpipe and the new slopestyle discipline. In 2010, White locked up gold on his first run of the halfpipe finals, but on his victory lap, unveiled his double McTwist 1260 - a trick that few other riders have managed to replicate four years later. So far this season, White has already unveiled one new halfpipe trick, a cab double cork 1440, leaving him as the favorite for a third straight gold in that event. He won't be the favorite in slopestyle - that honor goes to Canada's Mark McMorris - but is certainly a contender.

Taylor Gold - halfpipe
This has been a breakout season for Taylor Gold. The 20-year-old from Steamboat Spring, Colorado was a rookie on the U.S. Snowboarding halfpipe team this year but quickly asserted himself with a third place finish again an international field at the iON Mountain Championships. The podium became a familiar sight for Gold as he finished inside the top-three in each of the first three U.S. Grand Prix events, including a win at Copper. He'll be joined in Sochi by his sister Arielle, 17, who qualified for the women's halfpipe team.

Greg Bretz - halfpipe
Bretz will be making his second Olympic appearance in Sochi. He qualified for the final round of men's halfpipe in Vancouver in 2010 but ended up finishing 12th. The 23-year-old started the qualification process off by doing the unthinkable - becoming the first person in several years to beat Shaun White at a halfpipe contest. His victory at the iON Mountain Championships should give him plenty of confidence in Sochi.

Danny Davis - halfpipe
Sitting in prime position to qualify for the Olympic team in 2010, Danny Davis missed out on the opportunity following an ATV crash that left him injured. Fortunately he worked his way back into form in time to qualify for the 2014 Sochi Games, being named as a discretionary pick thanks in part to a win at the fourth qualifying event at Mammoth. A "snowboarder's snowboarder," Davis is a true throwback and a guy whose passion for the sport shines through in the style that his halfpipe runs exude. Eschewing the trend of hip-hop and dubstep, you can often find Davis riding to the mellow jams of the Grateful Dead during his runs.

Kelly Clark - halfpipe
Clark is heading to her fourth Winter Olympics. She won a gold medal in her debut in 2002 in Salt Lake City when she was 18 and won bronze in 2010 in Vancouver. One of the most progressive riders in the field, Clark was the first woman to land a 1080 and will be a gold medal contender in Sochi.
