Qualification
Each rider will take two qualifying runs in both the men's competition and the women's competition. After those qualifying runs, the top six competitors advance directly to the final.

Riders who did not qualify directly to the final then compete in a two-run semifinal, with the top six from the semifinals advancing to the final (12 riders in total will compete in the final in both the men's and women's competitions.)

Final
Each of the 12 riders in the final will take two runs, with the better score of the two counting for the final result.

The first run start order is in reverse order of the qualification results. The top six riders who qualified to the finals in the first run of qualification are the last six to start in the first run of the finals. The second run start order is in reverse order of the first run results.

Ranks one through 12 are determined by a rider's best score of two runs in the final. Ranks 13th and lower are based on competitors' scores from the semifinals and qualifying heats.

Parallel giant slalom

The format for the men's and women's parallel giant slalom competitions are the same. Both consist of two parts: qualification and finals.

Qualification
Qualification takes place in two runs, one on the red course and one on the blue course, which are side-by-side. Competitors with odd-numbered bibs complete the first run on the red course, and competitors with even-numbered bibs completing the first run on the blue course.

Any competitors finishing the first run of qualification are eligible for the second run. In the second run, competitors switch to the opposite course (if they completed the first run on the red course, they will complete the second on the blue course, and vice versa).

The start order for the second run of qualification is the reverse order of the results from the first run. Competitors with the top 16 cumulative times from the first and second runs of qualification move on to the finals.

Finals
The finals consist of six parts: 1/8 finals, quarterfinals, semifinals, consolation round (5th-8th place), a small final and a big final.

In each round of the finals, competitors will take two runs, one on the red course and one on the blue course, in head-to-head matches. In the second run, the start gate will open based on the time difference between the two competitors in the first run. For example, if competitor A finishes 1 second ahead of competitor B in the first run, competitor A will start 1 second ahead of competitor B in the second run. The maximum time difference between two start gates opening in round two is 1.5 seconds, meaning that if competitor A finishes 2 seconds ahead of competitor B in round one, competitor B starts 1.5 seconds after competitor A.

Any competitor who is disqualified on or fails to finish the first run will start the second run with a penalty time. The penalty time is four percent of the best qualification time, with a maximum of 1.5 seconds.

Whoever crosses the finish line first on the second run advances to the next round.

The finals break down as follows:

-1/8 finals: Athletes are seeded based on qualifying times. In the 1/8 finals, the top-seeded athlete rides against number 16, number 2 faces number 15 and so on. After two runs, the eight winners advance to the quarterfinals with losers placed 9th-16th based on their qualification times. (17th place and up are determined by qualification times.)

-Quarterfinals: After two runs, the winners advance to the semifinals with losers going to the consolation round (5th-8th place).

-Semifinals: After two runs, the winners advance to the big final with the losers going to the small final.

-Small final: After two runs, the winner is awarded the bronze medal, with the loser taking fourth place.

-Big Final: After two runs, the winner is awarded the gold medal, with the loser taking silver.

Snowboard cross

The format for the men's and women's snowboard cross competitions are different, though both consist of two parts: qualification and finals.

Qualification

In the qualification round, each competitor has two timed runs, with the best of those two runs determining the qualification result. In the men's competition, provided there are 32 or more competitors, the top 32 qualify for the finals. (If there are 31 or fewer competitors entered, the jury may decide on a different format for the finals, in which there would be 16 finalists instead of 32.) In the women's competition, the top 16 qualify for the finals.

In a competition with a 16-person final, the bib numbers for qualification start at 17, and in a competition with a 32-person final, the bib numbers for qualification start at 33 (bibs 1-16 and 1-32 in both cases are reserved for the finals).

Finals
In the finals, competitors are divided into heats, each consisting of four riders. Bib numbers in the finals correspond to the rider's rank in qualification (bib #1 belongs to the rider with the top qualifying time, bib #2 to the second best, and so on).

In order of their bib numbers, riders choose which of the four starting gates they will use in their respective heat (the lowest bib number picks first in each heat, followed by the second-lowest, and so on). Each rider wears a bib color that corresponds to his position in the start gate. From left to right, facing the hill, those colors are black, yellow, red and blue.

The women's and men's finals have two different formats.

The 16-competitor women's finals proceed as follows: Riders are divided into four quarterfinal heats as follows:

1st heat includes bib #'s 1, 8, 9, 16
2nd heat: 4, 5, 12, 13
3rd heat: 3, 6, 11, 14
4th heat: 2, 7, 10, 15

The top two riders from each quarterfinal qualify to the semifinal heats. The riders ranked third in the quarterfinals qualify to the classification heat for ninth to 12th place. The riders ranked fourth in the quarterfinals qualify to the classification heat for 13th to 16th place.

The top two riders from each semifinal heat qualify to the big final heat, which determines first through fourth place. The riders ranked third and fourth in the semifinals qualify to the small final heat to determine fifth through eighth place.

The 32-competitor men's finals are conducted in the same fashion with one additional round. In the first round, there will be eight heats of four riders, divided up as follows:

1st heat includes bib #'s 1, 16, 17, 32
2nd heat: 8, 9, 24, 25
3rd heat: 5, 12, 21, 28
4th heat: 4, 13, 20, 29
5th heat: 3, 14, 19, 30
6th heat: 6, 11, 22, 27
7th heat: 7, 10, 23, 26
8th heat: 2, 15, 18, 31.

The top two riders from each of the eight heats advance to the quarterfinals. The third and fourth place riders from each heat are ranked from 17 to 32 according to their qualification results.

Throughout all rounds, intentional contact by pushing, pulling or any other method that causes another competitor to slow down, fall or exit the course is grounds for an automatic disqualification. Unavoidable casual contact may be deemed acceptable. All contact infractions are at the discretion of the course judges and race jury.
