The four events contested on the Olympic table tennis program are:
* Men's singles
* Women's singles
* Men's team
* Women's team
London competition will take place at ExCeL London, situated near London City Airport in east London's Royal Victoria Dock.
Competition formats
All men's and women's singles competitions will be done in tournament bracket format. Each having a field of 64, the brackets will be designed so that once a competitor loses, they are out of the tournament. The only exceptions will be the semifinal matches where the losers will advance to the bronze medal game. The top 16 players will be seeded and will advance to the round of 32 automatically. The remaining 48 players will partake in play-in brackets to determine the other 16 athletes participating in the round of 32. From there, the full bracket will commence.
Held in two stages, the team competition will feature round-robin and tournament bracket play. The round-robin format will begin with all 16 teams. There will be four groups, each getting one of the four highest-ranked teams. The other teams will be inserted into each group randomly, two teams at a time by their ranking. Each team will play one "contest" with each of the other three teams in the group. The top teams from each group will advance to a four-team semifinal with the winners of those contests going to the gold medal contest and the losers going to the bronze medal contest.
