The final day of table tennis competition featured China's completion of a medals sweep, the team's most dominant performance since the sport was introduced to the Olympics in 1988. Ma Lin won men's singles gold, Wang Hao silver and Wang Liqin bronze.

The Chinese women swept the singles medals, taking all three as expected. World No. 1 Zhang Yining defeated Wang Nan 4-1 in the final.

American Wang Chen's run through the women's singles draw ended in the quarterfinals with a loss to South Korea's Kim Kyung-Ah. By making the quarterfinals, Wang advanced farther than any American ever had in table tennis at the Olympics.

China's women began singles play in the third round, facing little challenge. Zhang Yining, Wang Nan and Guo Yue each won 4-0.

On the first day of men's singles play David Zhuang, the lone American male to qualify for the Olympics, was eliminated in the preliminary round.

The Chinese men's team complimented the women's team effort of the previous day, dispatching Germany 3-0 to take gold in men's team competition. South Korea won bronze.

The Chinese women's team earned China's first table tennis medal of the Games, defeating Singapore 3-0 to win gold.

After making a run though the bronze-medal bracket, the U.S. women's table tennis team was eliminated from the competition by South Korea, the eventual bronze winner, with a 3-0 loss.

In the first round of the women's team bronze playoffs, America defeated Romania for the second time in the tournament, this time 3-1.

On the second day of men's and women's team competition group play, the U.S. women's team easily defeated Nigeria 3-0.

The American women's table tennis team faced a difficult draw on the first day of group play, losing to eventual silver winner Singapore and bronze winner South Korea. But the U.S. did defeat Romania 3-0.
