Having secured slots in two events for the 2008 Games, the U.S. has yet to name any paddlers to the Olympic team. For whitewater, paddlers accumulate points over a series of competitions to determine selection. Flatwater paddlers will compete in additional races, including continental qualifiers in May and world cup stops in June, to determine their selection. The team will be named by early July.

With just one member of the 2008 team named, paddlers are in the process of either accumulating points toward Olympic selection, or preparing for the next round of races in May and June 2008.

By finishing in the top five in team competition in all disciplines at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, the United States has secured a team berth in dressage, jumping and eventing. Trials for each discipline determine which horse/rider combinations will make the Olympic team, to be announced on July 15, 2008.

The U.S. team is comprised of 18 sailors, competing in all 11 classes at the 2008 regatta. The team was solidified following Olympic trials in October 2007. Hailing from all over the country, sailors range from age 20 to age 58.

The 2008 Olympic softball team is comprised of 15 former collegiate stars, many of whom also have played in the National Pro Fastpitch League. In October 2007, USA Softball conducted a Olympic Team selection camp from which a pool of 18 players was named. The final roster cuts were announced on March 29. Of the 15 players, 10 have prior Olympic experience, led by outfielder Laura Berg, who has played on all three gold medal-winning teams.

One of the first U.S. teams to be named, the United States secured an Olympic berth after winning the gold at the Pan American Games in the summer of 2007. The ten young women on the team spend at least six hours a day in the pool.

The men's U.S. Olympic track and field team will be comprised of 74 athletes who qualified by finishing in the top three in their respective events at the team trials. The men's marathon trials were held on Nov. 3, 2007 in New York City. The men's 50km racewalk trials were held Feb. 9, 2008 in Miami, Fla. The remainder of the team will be finalized at the conclusion of the track and field trials to be held from June 27-July 6 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Based on their finish at the 2007 Worlds, the U.S. was the first reserve nation to the Olympic Games, but was awarded an entry when the IOC determined that no countries were eligible for a Tripartite invitation.

The U.S. Olympic wrestling team will be decided at the Olympic Trials held June 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each nation can send a maximum of 18 wrestlers to the Olympics, one for each weight class: seven in men's freestyle, seven in Greco-Roman, and four in women's freestyle.
