In London, track and field events will be contested in the Olympic Stadium. The Olympic Stadium will have a capacity of 80,000 during the Games: 25,000 permanent seats in its permanent lower tier and a lightweight steel and concrete upper tier holding a further 55,000 spectators.

The 2012 Olympic track and field program comprises 26 running events, three walking events, 16 field events, the decathlon and heptathlon.

With noted exceptions, the following events are contested by both men and women:
