Columbus Blue Jackets forward Marian Gaborik will not take part in the Sochi Winter Olympics as he continues his recovery from a broken collarbone. The Jackets made the formal announcement Thursday.
Gaborik was set to play in his 3rd Olympic Games for his native Slovakia. Gaborik, 31, has played in just 18 games for Columbus this season. He recovered from a knee injury before suffering the broken collarbone December 21. He scored 5 goals and tallied 7 assists this season.
“Marian has worked extremely hard and done everything possible to rehabilitate his injury and return to the ice with the hope of representing his country in Sochi,” said Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a news release from the team. “We share his deep disappointment that he will not be able to do so, but are optimistic that he will be fully recovered very soon.”
“I have been lucky and proud to represent my country at two Olympic Games and other international tournaments and look forward to doing so again in the future.” Gaborik said.
