Long a competitive rider on the circuit, Zan Kosir has emerged over the past year as one of the best alpine snowboarders in the world, with four World Cup podiums during the calendar year of 2013 despite dealing with nagging back problems.
Kosir also dealt with back problems in the lead-up to Vancouver, where he was pleased with his sixth-place finish since it came ten months after he had surgery.
He took up snowboarding at age 11 after seeing kids riding during a family vacation to Val Gardena, Italy. Soon after, he received a snowboard as a Christmas present.
Kosir won the bronze medal in parallel giant slalom at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
