Get to know the Olympians that have a connection to Wisconsin!
Hilary Knight, Hockey
Hilary Knight played hockey at the University of Wisconsin and helped the Badgers win the 2009 National Championship. She graduated in 2012 as the Badgers all-time leading scorer. Knight now looks to lead Team USA past their arch rival Canada, who defeated them in the gold medal game at the 2010 Olympics.
Erika Brown, Curling
Curler Erika Brown was born and raised in Madison, Wis. After failing to qualify for the 2010 Games, Brown returns to the Olympics after her rink won the 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials. According to Brown, the best things to do in Madison include biking around Lake Monona, eating at Buck’s Pizza, getting ice cream at Bascom Hill, visiting the Farmer’s Market and viewing the Capitol from across Lake Monona.
Amanda Kessel, Hockey
Hockey player Amanda Kessel hails from Madison, Wis. Kessel helped lead the Madison Capitols Bantam boys' team to the state and regional championships in 2005-06. She makes her Olympic debut for Team USA at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Brian Hansen, Speed Skating
Speed skater Brian Hansen resides in Milwaukee and went to college at Marquette University. He competed in the team pursuit in Vancouver and earned a silver medal for his efforts.
Jessie Vetter, Hockey
Goaltender Jessie Vetter grew up in Cottage Grove, Wis. and attended the University of Wisconsin. Vetter was the goalie for the 2009 National Championship team alongside teammate Hilary Knight. In her four years with the Badgers, she posted an NCAA record 39 shutouts. Vetter minded the net for the silver medal-winning Team USA at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.
