Eric Bernotas grew up just east of Lancaster County in Avondale, Pa., where he still lives. His road to the Olympic Games has been a winding one. He overcame depression, alcoholism and Tourette's Syndrome to compete in one of the Game's most intense and dangerous events -- skeleton.
Bernotas has been on the U.S. skeleton team since 2002. He placed 6th at the 2006 Torino Games. At the time, he said, "I may have had the jitters being here for the first time. I wasn't really comfortable on my sled and it showed with my times." Since Torino, Bernotas has performed very well, medaling in several world competitions.
