Tyler Jewell was born in Boston and grew up right outside of the city. After getting rid of the skis at age ten, Jewell didn't waste any time before making an impact on the snowboarding world. He placed in the top-20 twice at the junior worlds while he was still in high school. He gave up snowboarding for four years while working on an education degree from Boston College, then started racing again in '02.
