Rhode Island-born snowboarder Kelly Clark could be known as "Queen of the Halfpipe." According to the USOC, Clark dominated the sport in 2001-2002 at the age of 18 when she won two Grand Prix events, the Winter X Games and the U.S. Open. She also took the gold medal at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, where the sport made its Olympic debut. Clark competed at the 2006 Games in Torino, where she placed fourth. More recently, she was crowned the 2008-2009 Swatch TTR World Tour Champion. Clark graduated from the Mount Snow Academy in Vermont in 2001 and has been training with the U.S. snowboard team off and on since 2000. A ski racer until the third grade, she made the switch to snowboarding and began competing in contests at age 13. Clark was born in Newport, R.I., on July 26, 1983.
