Those teams hoping to stop the U.S. Women's Hockey Team from pursuing gold in Vancouver will have to get past goalie, Brianne McLaughlin, of Sheffield Village. McLaughlin has been a standout athlete in Northeast Ohio from her days at Elyria Catholic High School where she graduated in 2005. An MVP athlete in track, McLaughlin also competed in softball, basketball, swimming and volleyball. She also started 15 games for the AAA hockey club Ohio Flames of the USA 19-and-under-league.
After high school, McLaughlin went on to play four years on the women's hockey team at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania. She set an NCAA record with 3,809 career saves and won College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week honors numerous times. With her rich history of athletic success and her strong family roots, McLaughlin will be one of the hometown favorites Northeast Ohio will be rooting for at the Winter Olympics.
