Louie Vito says when growing up in Ohio, people at his public school could never understand why he missed classes to travel and snowboard. This February in Vancouver, they can see for themselves.
Born in Columbus, Vito grew up in Bellefontaine in Logan County. He learned to ski at the near-by Mad River Mountain Resort where he also found his passion for snowboarding. While ironically, Bellefontaine is home to the highest elevated point in Ohio (Campbell Hill at 1,549 feet), it wasn't high enough to contain Vito's alpine aspirations.
In 8th grade, Vito transferred to Stratton Mountain School in Vermont where he combined studies and snowboarding. By the time he arrives in Vancouver, Vito may already be a household name, but not just because of his snowboarding. In 2009, he competed for the mirror ball trophy on "Dancing with the Stars". Come winter 2010, his focus will be on gold.
