Nicole Joraanstad was bitterly disappointed after the 2006 Olympic curling qualifiers. Joraanstad's team was expected to battle for a berth in the Olympics, but her team - along with Debbie McCormick's squad - were both eliminated in surprising fashion.
The two decided to join forces and now play key parts on a U.S. team that is expecting big things. Joraanstad, a native of Seattle, graduated with a BS from the University of Wisconsin and now curls out of the Madison Curling Club. She plays slow- and fast-pitch softball in the summer and has also taken up golf. Yet, she still curls every day and has two games per week. She credits her curling success to being good under pressure and her extremely competitive nature.
