Lindsey Jacobellis, a.k.a. "Lucky Lindsey," is one of the most decorated snowboarding athletes in the world. In 2004, she was the World Cup overall champion in snowboard cross (SBX), where she remained undefeated the entire season. That same year, she was nominated for "Sportswoman of the Year," by the Women's Sports Foundation. Jacobellis is also a three-time SBX Winter X Games gold medalist.
She is probably best known for her fall at the 2006 Games. In the final of the first-ever snowboard cross event, Jacobellis decided to do a fancy jump called the method grab. She later admitted the jump was unncessary because you aren't awarded style points. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and settled for silver, allowing competitor Tanja Frieden of Switzerland to win gold. Her fall became one of the most replayed shots during the middle weekend of Olympics.
Make no mistake about it, Jacobellis is eager to redeem herself. She will be a threat to all who compete in the snowboard cross in 2010. In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys wakeboarding, playing the piano and teaching younger kids how to snowboard.
