Seth Wescott was born in Durham, North Carolina to Jim and Margaret Wescott, who both worked at N.C. State University. His father was a track and field coach and his mother was a modern dance professor. However, by the time Wescott turned two, the family had moved to Farmington, Maine. While attending Western State College in Colorado he noticed the increasing attention to the emerging new sport of snowboard cross. He began competing in SBX events thereafter. Intense training in the sport eventually lead Wescott to a gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic games in Torino. Of the experience, he says, "Getting reached out to from people, you know, all over the U.S. and all over the world kind of blew me away. But it was really people from the South and North Carolina in general, like I got so many emails from people who were so proud that I was from their state."
