After a steady ascension in recent years, the high-flying Alex Ferreira has become one of the latest in Team USA's long line of exceptional halfpipe skiers.

An Aspen, Colorado native who grew up riding with 2014 U.S. Olympian Torin Yater-Wallace, Ferreira originally tried mogul skiing before making the switch to freeskiing.

So far, he has three X Games medals to his credit so far, with his best result being a silver medal at the Oslo event in 2016. He has also been a consistent presence on the rest of the halfpipe contest circuit, finishing in the top six of the FIS World Cup rankings in three consecutive seasons and the top four of the AFP rankings in two of the last three seasons.

Apart from his amplitude, Ferreira also stands out for his ability to execute technical tricks, as well as his exuberance. Competing against a deep field of skiers at the Tignes World Cup event in March 2017, Ferreira claimed a major victory. Knowing that he'd stomped his run, the enthusiasm was evident as soon he landed the final trick — Ferreira began spinning his poles over his head in celebration as he skied into the corral.
