With over a decade of gymnastics experience under her wing, it didn't take long for Ashley Caldwell to transition into a new sport — freestyle skiing.

It all started one day in 2006 when Caldwell watched Olympic skiing on TV and decided that was what she wanted to do. After three years of training, she made it on to the U.S. Ski Team. Soon after, she qualified for the Olympics. Caldwell returned to the Olympics again in 2014, finishing 10th both times.

After finishing as the runner-up in the FIS World Cup standings for aerials in 2015, Caldwell won the Crystal Globe the following year.

What sets Caldwell apart in competition is her bold, risk-taking style, exemplified by a willingness to try a triple-flipping jump on every single attempt. This all-or-nothing style could knock her out of the competition early — or it could propel her to a victory, like it did at the 2017 World Championships.
