Katinka Hosszu, an Olympic and world champion swimmer from Hungary, is pregnant with her first child and plans to return to competition as a mom.

Hosszu’s announcement on social media Friday came nine months after the 33-year-old reportedly said she was unlikely to swim at a swimming record-tying sixth Olympics in 2024 because she wanted to have a baby.

On Monday, a representative for Hosszu said, “She is planning to return to compete” after childbirth.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Hosszu won the 200m individual medley, 400m IM and 100m backstroke.

She swept the 200m and 400m IMs at the world championships in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 and is the world record holder in those two events, which crown the world’s best all-around swimmer.

She won zero medals at the most recent Olympics in 2021 (best finish of fifth) and the most recent world championships last June (best finish of fourth).
