Alex Ovechkin won't be competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics, but the hockey legend will still be there in spirit.

In a wholesome gesture, Ovechkin gifted a set of yellow laces to U.S. figure skater Ilia Malinin, who said he will wear them throughout the Olympics.

Malinin is a native of Fairfax, Virginia, near where Ovechkin has spent his entire NHL career starring for the Washington Capitals.

Ovechkin has sported the signature yellow laces throughout his illustrious 21-year career as one of the greatest NHL players ever.

"Honestly, I'm in disbelief," Malinin told NBC4 Washington. "It's a gift from him, and he's supporting me and wishing me good luck in these Olympics. It's just really nice to have someone of that status being supportive of me and coming from that D.C., Virginia area. It's such an honor and I'm so grateful for his support."

The 21-year-old Malinin is known as the "Quad God," earning the nickname when he became the first skater ever to successfully land a quadruple axel in competition. He is a two-time world champion and seen by many as the favorite to take home gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
