Americans Charlie Mickel and Landon Wendler will have a second chance to ski for a spot in the men's moguls final on Thursday at Livigno Aerials & Moguls Park.
Mickel and Wendler finished less than a point outside the top 10, in 11th and 12th respectively, falling just short to Australia's Matt Graham. Should both men place in the top 10 on Thursday morning, all four Americans will compete together in the final. Nick Page and Dylan Walczyk secured a finals berth in the first qualifier round.
"All around it was a solid run," Mickel said. "It just wasn't quite my best. I'm glad I made it down clean and can just build from here hopefully. I pretty much just try to ski my best every run."
Mickel made his Olympic debut at these Games in Livigno, Italy, where he claimed his first and only FIS World Cup podium one year ago with a 3rd-place finish. Mickel followed in his older sister Trudy's footsteps, a junior world champ in moguls in her own right.
"It's definitely been really fun to be here," Mickel said. "I'm super grateful to have just made it to the Games in the first place. It's enjoyable to have all the attention that comes to the Games."
Wendler, another first-time Olympian, has claimed 10 NorAm Cup podiums, including a moguls victory in 2020 and a dual moguls victory in 2022. He earned his first and only World Cup podium in 2024 with a 3rd-place finish in dual moguls in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Japan's Takuya Shimakawa and Goshin Fujiki will also look to join their teammate and podium favorite Ikuma Horishima in the final after placing behind Mickel and Wendler. Shimakawa has one World Cup podium finish in dual moguls, which he claimed in 2024.
Another talent looking to make his mark is Australian Cooper Woods, who has hopes of improving upon his 6th-place finish in Beijing four years ago. The 25-year-old was forced to miss the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury, but Woods returned to competition with a brand-new knee and the hope of returning to the top.
The men's moguls final takes place at 6:15 a.m. ET on Thursday with coverage on NBCOlympics.com and Peacock.
