Canada is headed to the semifinal round of the women's Olympic hockey tournament after they defeated Germany 5-1 on Saturday.
Team captain Marie-Philip Poulin returned to Olympic play against the Germans, as Canada continues its Olympic title defense. She was injured earlier in the tournament and missed two group stage contests, including the 5-0 loss to the United States on Tuesday.
Poulin recorded her first goal of the 2026 Games off the power play with just under five minutes to go in the game. With the goal, Poulin tied fellow Canadian Hayley Wickenheiser for the women's Olympic goals record (18).
"Honestly, I just wanted to be back on the ice with the girls," Poulin said when asked about the record after the game. "I didn't think about that. Lucky enough, it went in. It was a great play by our power play. But we just wanted that win and getting ready for the semi," Poulin added.
Brianne Jenner, Claire Thompson, Sarah Fillier and Blayre Turnbull also found the back of the net for Canada. While, forward Franziska Feldmeier scored the lone goal, as Germany was eliminated from the women's tournament.
The semifinals take place on Feb. 16, watch live on NBCOlympics.com and Peacock.
